Our Story
Small Business Resource International is dedicated to connecting small business entrepreneurs with people in emerging nations to offer assistance with infrastructure, healthcare, and business development.
We began our first project in Uganda in 2007. According to (newspaper article that Tom has) 95% of disease in Uganda can be traced to poor water quality and inadequate sanitation solutions. This problem is particularly prevalent in the rural villages of Uganda.
It is quite common along the rural roads of Uganda to see young children carrying yellow jerry cans, some empty as they walk to the closest source of water, and some heavy and full as they head home with their precious cargo. Most of the water they collect is from surface streams or lakes and is not protected from contaminants coming from people, roads and livestock. Some must walk 5 or 6 kilometers each way to their local water source. All this effort for something that will most likely make them sick.
A nearby supply of clean contaminant free drinking water is a key component of a healthy community. Our initial approach to this issue was to find a simple, inexpensive yet effective way to provide clean water. The use of Biosand water filters meets this need, so we are currently involved in providing these very effective filters to the communities where we work.
